After the successes of the club at last year's Sports Awards (see here: http://bit.ly/SAs2017), the club were once again delighted to see someone from within the club win an award.

On February 9th, our very own Luke Newman was awarded the Gold Olympic Legacy Award at the Chipping Norton 2018 Sports Awards. The Olympic Legacy Awards are given to coaches or club members who go above and beyond the usual commitments to providing sport for the youngsters in the community.

Luke was nominated by Martyn Clements for his dedication to Chipping Norton Swifts over a number of years but in particular in 2017 when Luke ran two age groups for Swifts (our current U13s and U14s). Therefore, doubling the amount time needed for training, matches and admin.

At the beginning of 2017/18 season, with other new coaches joining the club, Luke was able to concentrate his efforts to just one age group - however, a number of players were 'lost' over the summer months. This did not deter Luke's drive and he made the team competitive even when they were playing against sides with much bigger squads. Luke continued the recruitment drive to enable the age group to continue. Whilst numbers remain light, the players continue to be show their great attitude in all matches thanks to Luke's efforts.

Luke also line-marks all four of Swifts pitches in preparation for match days. His attention to detail is well-known, which is partly why he doesn't let/want anyone else to do it! But without him carrying out this tasks in all weathers, none of our age groups would have clearly marked pitches to play on.

Finally, Luke also creates, updates and manages the club's official website and Facebook page. He is also available to any coach at any time to help with the online league admin duties.

All of the above really does mean Luke is one of the Swifts unsung heroes and the Gold Award really is fully deserved of such a well-liked young man.

Congratulations Luke. The club is very proud to have you on board.
